GelTech Provides FireIce Spring Fire Season Update
JUPITER, FL / ACCESSWIRE / May 10, 2018 / GelTech Solutions, Inc. (GLTC), an innovator in the use of environmentally-friendly polymers for fire suppression and protection, today announced that the Oklahoma Forestry Services agency utilized FireIce at three state airtanker bases during the 2018 fire season. Oklahoma Forestry made several purchases of FireIce 561 fire suppressant / medium-term retardant this spring, as the agency dealt with several large and destructive fires, including the 286,000 acre Rhea fire.
There are now five FireIce bases in the state, including two Bureau of Indian Affairs tanker bases, one of which was also a new addition this year. All five bases are agency-operated, with GelTech providing a field operations specialist as needed to support the agencies.
Tanker bases typically vary in size and capability depending on the agency’s needs. GelTech has a number of different options that are available to agencies utilizing FireIce, and can either be permanently fixed or portable to relocate as close to the fire as possible. We are able to mix and load FireIce products utilizing agency owned equipment, aircraft vendor mixing trailers, company owned portable equipment, and company owned fixed equipment. In Oklahoma, we are using primarily aircraft vendor mixing trailers.
“We are thrilled to have Oklahoma Forestry implementing the FireIce program for their Single Engine Airtanker (SEAT) program,” said Matt Struzziero, GelTech’s Vice President. “They are the latest state firefighting agency to make the switch to our environmentally-friendly and cost-effective FireIce products. We are pleased that the product performed as expected with the agency, and supported their effort to protect state and private land in Oklahoma.”
In addition, GelTech reports that the spring wildland fire season is off to a busy start in 2018. Current state agency customers in Minnesota, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin have all had fire activity, with FireIce HVO-F deployed in Single Engine Airtankers in all the states. In Pennsylvania, GelTech has confirmed that an airtanker with FireIce was able to help save a farm and livestock. Several of these agencies have ordered additional FireIce inventory this spring.
GelTech also announces that two FireIce products, 561 and HVO-F, are currently being evaluated by New Jersey Forest Fire Service this spring. The agency will be purchasing product as part of their evaluation and will be deploying both products when their airtankers are dispatched.
About GelTech’s Wildland Fire Division
GelTech Solutions Wildland Fire Division specializes in providing cutting-edge fire chemicals and equipment, as well as training and support, to wildland fire agencies around the world. Our talented team has extensive wildland fire and aviation experience in federal, state and Canadian government agencies, allowing us to understand the specific needs, challenges and goals of our customers in the wildland fire industry. As an agile organization, we have an ability to be fast moving, flexible and robust – capable of rapid response to unexpected challenges, events, and opportunities in a wildland fire environment where the “new normal” of large and complex fires is unprecedented.
With fire seasons starting earlier and running longer than in past decades, providing wildfire response has become far costlier and more difficult to manage. Agencies that have implemented FireIce as part of their airtanker and engine programs have seen significant cost reductions in both direct costs, personnel support required and product efficiencies. GelTech Solutions also provides fixed and mobile airtanker and helicopter bases which can be rapidly deployed with our FireIce products to accommodate additional firefighting resources in a cost effective and timely manner, with expert support available at all times.
GelTech Solutions, under the guidance of chief technology officer Peter Cordani, developed the original FireIce product as a next-generation, environmentally-friendly firefighting agent in 2007. Over the last ten years, GelTech’s team of wildland fire specialists has expanded the original FireIce product to a portfolio of FireIce branded fire chemicals, equipment and services designed to help wildland fire agencies around the world fight fire in a safer, more effective, less costly and more environmentally friendly way.
